The Academy of Lymphatic Studies offers an array of online classes including Anatomy of the Lymphatic System, Complications in Lymphedema, Billing for Lymphedema, and more. Courses range in length from 5-12 hours and can be completed at your convenience.
6-Hours - This online course is designed to further the knowledge of therapists in appropriate billing and documentation suggested for patients with Lymphedema and Wound Care.
Details
8 Hours - This course is an education on the complete lymphatic system. Participants will learn the anatomy of the lymphatic system, including anastomoses, watersheds, territories, bundles and more.
Details
5 Hours - Participants will learn about the mechanisms of fluid transfer between the blood capillaries, tissues and lymph capillaries. In addition, the function of the lymphatic system and its role in fluid homeostasis, as well as the different forms of insufficiencies of the lymphatic system.
Details
8 Hours - This course includes the main causes of lymphedema, the differentiation between primary and secondary lymphedema, and the various stages of lymphedema. Participants learn the different imaging techniques used for the lymphatic system, the various complications associated with lymphedema and necessary treatment modifications. For patient safety, participants will learn the various contraindications associated with Complete Decongestive Therapy.
Details
6 Hours - Participants will review of various complications that may be associated with lymphedema and how they may affect the treatment itself and/or treatment outcomes. Also included in this course is the body’s reaction to an accumulation of protein-rich lymph fluid (Lymph Stasis) and the effectiveness of modalities used for the treatment of lymphedema in addition to CDT.
Details
5 Hours - Participants will learn the pathophysiology of venous insufficiencies and the stages of this condition. This includes the effects of venous insufficiencies as they relate to the dynamics on the blood capillary level (filtration and reabsorption), Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI) and the effects of CVI on the lymphatic system. Participants also learn the signs and symptoms of deep venous thrombosis (DVT), the pathophysiology of Lipedema, the effects of Lipedema on the lymphatic system, the signs and symptoms of pure Lipedema, and the pathophysiology of Lipo-Lymphedema.
Details
5 Hours - Participants will learn the inflammatory response of the soft tissues due to traumatic events and the negative effects of swelling associated with trauma. In addition, participants learn how the lymphatic system reacts to inflammatory processes and the effects of chronic inflammatory processes associated with Rheumatoid Arthritis and Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy on the lymphatic system and more.
Details
6 Hours - Participants will learn the phases and components of Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT). The four components of CDT are Manual Lymph Drainage, Compression, Skin Care and Exercise. Included in this course are video sequences demonstrating various manual modalities, to include Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) techniques and the application of basic padded short-stretch bandaging techniques for the upper and lower extremities.
